I have really fine curly hair that usually frizzes even with salon blow drying and this iron leaves my hair perfectly straight, smooth, and gives it shine. I can have it for a week!!! looking the same as day one. No frizz and no curls, no matter the weather. I love it and recommend it for anyone with curly hair and it also works great with wavy hair, I've used it on my cousins hair and it looks so shiny and natural, better than at the salon. Very worth the price.

This straightener leaves hair moisturized and shiny! For me it took about 2 times over the same hair but it was worth it! Also I used this flat iron with the Hot Sauce heat protectant and it works amazing! They say this flat iron makes hair healthier in 60 days of regular use I used it for the first time and it made my hair healthier so im curious to find out on the 60 days!If you dont have it you have to get it!

Great Flat iron. I have never used one before, and I was hesitant.
Took a while to get used to using it, but once I did, it was great. I have straight hair already, but wanted to keep the frizzies out and give it a bounce at the end.

This hair straightener is great. My wife tried several cheaper versions but they did not live up to their promises. I stick by my saying that you get what you pay for. Don't go cheap b/c your girlfriend or spouse will appreciate the extra expense and thought.

I've always had a cheap iron and finally broke down and spent the money to buy a nicer one. I will never go back. I've had numerous comments on how soft my hair looks since I've got this. I definitely would recommend buying this.

I don't have anything to compare this to, as this is the only flat iron I have used. I love it. It works great. My hair looks very shiny after I use it, and it is able to withstand humidity. I use this daily, and I use it year-round. I'd highly recommend it.

This is the best flat iron I have ever used and I have used many! It leaves my hair soft, silky and full of body. I have four daughters and each have different hair types so the dial control is great because I can adjust the temperature for each one! I also like the fact that the outside doesn't get so hot that it's too unbearable to hold while styling.

..the first one I had just died. It lasted 4 years--FOUR YEARS--for those of you shopping for your first iron, four years is an ETERNITY for a straightening iron to last. This is a great, durable, no-nonsense hair straightener. Forget all the wet to dry crap, if you want a reliable straightener that will work for years, this is the one to buy--definitely worth the price, and definitely superior to CHI. Oh, and by the way, I have waist-length very thick wavy hair.

I purchased this iron and have used it to create some of the cutest hair styles. Not only did it straighten my hair, but my hair felt softer and silkier than it has with any other flat iron (vs. the CHI). I never thought you could fall in love with a flat iron but I have. Last summer I cut my hair like Rhianna and as I approached 2009 I knew it was time for a new look. So I decided to grow out my hair. I am a strong believer of good products but I have never bought a flat iron so expensive. First off, I qualified for Amazon Prime which meant my delivery would take 2 days and it was free. The day my FHI heat 1 inch Platform came, I spent 3 hours straightening, curling, flipping and having a great time. I'm thrilled. I have naturally curly hair and it is straight and shiny thanks to FHI. I am going to the FHI Hot Sauce because I cant wait to see the results of the two combined together. The best part is as we all approach economic hardships we can look like we just left the salon. I've only recently gotten into tourmaline/ceramic technology and shopped around for a long time before I decided on investing in a FHI. PROS: My hair is definately softer and shinier after using this product, and it always gives me the same results. With my old flat iron I was never sure how my hair would turn out, it always depended on the weather and how often I was styling my hair. With the FHI I always get the same sleek, smooth look. CONS: A friend of mine bought a CHI turbo and that thing flattens your hair in one pass - I was hoping the FHI would pack the same punch, but in the end it takes me a couple passes to get it perfectly straight. Overall I'm very pleased with this product. SIDE NOTE: FHI's Hot Sauce makes a HUGE difference when using this iron - it's a buying must!! :)

Ok I just received the FHI iron in the mail today, and i definitely have to say it works very well, my own hair stylist uses a iron similar to this one, it was one of the main reasons i wanted it, due to almost a week after getting my hair done it would begin to frizz. So i wanted to maintain my look in between getting my hair done. this was for a very good price, on FHI's official website its almost $200 plus shipping. Amazon's price is better by far. anyone who buys will not be disappointed, and if you are then your just to picky and like spending $400 on a flat iron =:0

My wife loves this! We had an FHI in the past, which regrettably stopped functioning. It also had variable heat, which so many of the irons in this price range do not have. My wife says this one glides over her hair even more smoothly than the previous model. She finds the 1" size to be the most flexible. Note that some other FHI models do not have variable heat, but the Platform series does. It gets very hot, and maintains that heat. She uses it on our eight year old daughter's unprocessed hair to wonderful effect as well.

I recently purchased this flat iron and I can honestly say it was one of the best purchases I have made in a long, long time. I have very, very thick wavy hair. I cannot go to a new salon without being told that I "have the thickest hair they've ever seen on a white girl". I was between this and a CHI, but after using a CHI I decided that I honestly didn't like what it did to my hair. The CHI was effective, but left my hair feeling dry and took away some of the sheen. So I went with the FHI Platform. Prior to using this I used a$35 flat iron from Target. It worked, but it took approximately twenty five minutes to completely straighten my dry hair, plus another 10 minutes in touch ups the next morning since my hair refused to stay straight. I have used the FHI several times and despite the current humidity and rain within the past week, my hair stayed straight, flat, shiny and without frizz. I didn't have to touch it up the next morning at all. On top of this, my straightening time is almost cut in half. I can run the iron through a segment of my hair once and it is straight. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!

FHI Professional Platform Flatiron 1". This is the absolute BEST. I have exceptionally frizzy hair and always have. Since the advent of flatirons, I have bought a gazillion and they just didn't "get it". But, I heard from my stylist about this one and took her advice and now again I understand ALWAYS ASK THE PRO and this is the professional unit. It goes past 400 degrees which is one of the differences, and it straightens or flips or curls. It is fantastic even on a muggy, moisture-ridden Tennessee day. Try it you will love it as well. If it can make my hair straight it can do anything.

i just got this model and used it for the first time today. there was absolutely a difference in my hair. i was using a revlon ceramic before which was a couple of years old, so it was time for an upgrade. I went with this one based on the other good reviews. My hair is definitely straighter, smoother and silkier than when i used the old flat iron. it may be a five star item, i just havent used it very much yet! but so far its awesome! i 100% recommend this flat iron!!

This iron works great. The end caps with the FHI insignia came off within a week. This does not effect the functioning of the iron, but for $100.00 you'd think nothing would crack or break.

Left my hair with a nice sheen and did not feel damaged. Platform is smooth....Good product.

I bleach and color my hair every month and obviously use flat iron. So my hair was taken a beat. This flat iron does a nice job and is helping my hair to get smoother and healthier. The previous iron I had just use to add to the problem. I don't use it in the highest setting, it isn't necessary. It doesn't work miracles, no iron does. But it does a very nice job taking care of your hair and straighten it. It was voted #2 iron of 2007. And the price in Amazon is the best around!!! (at least when I wrote this review) Enjoy :D

My hairdresser recommended this over the Chi and the T3 Tourmaline. I spent alot of time researching this item and price. I found it at Amazon with free shipping and also Amazon had the best price. The unit works really well, and heats up very quickly. I like the fact that in addtion to getting my hair pin straight, I can also get a very loose curl with just a flick of the wrist. I haven't tried the other options for using the flat iron that are explained in the video on the FHI website but I have watched my hairstylist use it and I can't believe that it also works like a barrel roller. My hair feels softer and doesn't seem to be fried. The only drawback is that because the head is only 1 inch it does take me a little longer to do my hair ( I have below the shoulder length hair). I would recommend this flat iron if you don't mind the price.

I have been researching flat irons for about six months...going on different websites looking at people reviews and checking out the latest technology in flat ironS and let me tell this is the best for the money. The best imo would have to be the fhi runway but that runs at $400 so that was a HELL NO! lol...

I was going to choose either this or the sedu and i am glad i choose this. It usually runs for about $180 elsewhere so this is a deal.

However I have one draw back of this iron and that is burns the scalp if u get too close but other than that it is great...GET IT!
I have AA relaxed bra-strap hair and this makes it silky, shinny and straight with one pass...i usually wash and air dry, when i am finish my hair is wavy and on the thick side. I flat iron in small sections and i use a heat protectant. Also i dont know if it is the technology or something but the iron tends to make ur hair feel really clean...it is a plus tho cause the hair moves with ease.

Works like the CHI
I have naturally coarse hair that is relaxed. My hairdresser used another high line ceramic iron and I liked the results, but I didn't like the price. She told me that the FHI was a comparable if not better iron. I bought this iron and I love, love, love the results. It works best for me if I use a salon quality shampoo and conditioner and then I only use the Silk Therapy serum: other products weigh it down and take away the silky effect of the iron. My hair turns out more humidity resistant, and I love the fact that the iron has the variable temp control. I don't have to go to the hairdresser as often, which saves me money!
My friends love the results and I get many compliments on the texture. I highly recommend this product.

My Solano iron quit working after 2 years. I did a lot of research and bought this one b/c it got a lot of good feedback. I have used my sister's Chi and this iron is a lot like it. It heats up fast and leaves my hair feeling very soft. I love the variable temp. b/c I can use it on my daughter's hair on a lower setting. [...]gives this iron good reviews and I agree. I recommend getting a good flat iron. Everyone I know that got a cheap one hated it. Also, get the 1 inch even if you have long hair. The larger irons are hard to use.

I love it, I am Black and have a texturizer in my hair, it gets my hair really really straight. I tried other irons but like this one the best, it doesnt damage your hair. The iron does get very hot so you have to be careful.

GREAT IN FLORIDA HUMIDITY!
I am very happy with the purchase of this FHI Heat Platform Cermaic Flat Iron because it withstands the awful humidity & the frizzies that come with living in Florida. I have long layered hair and the 1 1/4" is the perfect width to use-not too small, not too big. Great buy!

Great Flat Iron
I love this flat iron! It straightens my very thick hair great, and very quick. I never have to go over one strand twice.

Also, the iron glides right through your hair. There is no pulling whatsoever. Before this flatiron, I had a very inexpensive flat iron which I before purchasing this item I thought was a good iron, but looking back I realize that my old iron was trash compared to this one!

Take into consideration that the heat dial and the on/off switch are on the 'inside' of the iron, very close to the two hot plates, which sometimes makes me nervous but I have had no problems so far.

Overall, definitely worth the money.

I would not have paid the full suggested retail for this item, but at the Amazon price I feel like I received a fair deal. I was using a flat iron I purchased from Sally Beauty for around $70 before this. It lasted about a year before it just stopped working one day. We'll see how long this one lasts. I do like the size. My hair is not overly curly, so it works well for me. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. BTW, Ulta sells this same item for around $189.00 just FYI.

Great Investment!
After much research and debate with myself, I decided to make this special purchase as a treat to myself and my hair. This is definitely the best investment I've made in terms of a styling tool ever! What else can I say but I love it! As an African American female, there are few tools that yield the same result as freshly curled hair by way of the marcel irons. Not only did the Runway meet my expectations in that area, it left my hair softer than ever and with a sheen that is quite impressive. Ladies treat yourself in '08 with this worth while tool. After I'm done I look like I've stepped out of the salon!

Worth every penny.
I did a lot of research before buying a straightener, especially because I was skeptical about any of them being able to actually add to the health of my hair.

All in all, I was extremely impressed. It's near impossible to get my hair to stay straight, it's ALWAYS frizzy if it's the least bit humid outside, no matter what hair products I put in it...until FHI Runway.

My hair stays straight no matter what (I think the most it's ever been is slightly wavy, but that's because my head had been slightly rained on) and I do not lie, my hair quality has actually improved. I used to hate my frizzy curls, but lately, if I decided to let my hair air dry, it still dries supple and healthy.

I know, it's sounds to good to be true. But it worked for me. Maybe it's because I have fine hair. Anyway, that's my two cents.

FHI Runway Is the KING of All Flat Irons
INTRODUCTION
------------
I haven't used my Runway for too long, but I can already say this is the best flat iron in the world. First of all, it's Made in Korea, not China like all the other cheaper flat irons. The Runway's two ceramic plates -- six baked layers of ceramic, with each layer having tourmaline sprinkled over it, and then finally infused together -- were hand-made and take 3 weeks to actually make according to FHI, so although the price is really up there, I would say the price is somewhat justified. Using the FHI patented ICHS -- Integrated Ceramic Heating System -- the Runway sports a fully spread heater over the entire plate, not just in the middle with cold spots on the edges, found in some other irons.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
------------------

1 FHI Heat Technique/Platform/Runway instruction booklet -- Note that the booklet's first page says it's the 1" Platform model, not the 1" Runway, but I think it's like that for all the Runways because I have opened another Runway box last year and it said the same thing. I guess FHI can't be bothered to make separate booklets for each of their irons.

FIRST TIME USING IT
-------------------
After showering, I towel dried and waited about 30 minutes until my hair was about 90% dry. I then applied FHI Hot Sauce -- a small red bottle of white cream with some sprinkles on it to help protect the heat -- all over my hair in order to protect it from the heat that it will soon go through. Next used an FHI Carbon Comb 9" version and combed my hair into my desired style, wanting bangs.

At the lowest temperature setting of 140 degrees, my hair didn't get too straight and I had some hair bending going on! But I don't think I was finishing right on my ends when I was pulling the Runway out, so it was not the Runway's fault. Although I was disappointed, this was only my first time and I was very nervous using this expensive iron, so I still had hope. Then I remembered this iron has a variable temperature setting, so I should try to increase the temperature. So I amped it up to 300 degrees, and things got a little bit better... Then I tried the maximum 450 degrees, and the results were much better. Do note that at the 400 degrees or higher, steam will be coming out of your hair. After about 5 minutes, I was comfortable enough to use it and finish properly on the ends. After about 20 minutes I was done and satisfied with my hair. It was very straight. Of course, it doesn't take me 20 minutes to use the Runway anymore, as that was only my first time and I was being so cautious using it and experimenting with different temperatures.

The iron takes a while more than I had hoped to get to the desired temperature. You'll know when it's ready when the red LED starts blinking. It takes at least 10-15 seconds...not the 5 seconds I heard. Still, that's very good and much better than a lot of other flat irons.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
----------------------
It's also very easy to clean the white ceramic plates, which are gorgeous to touch! Just take rubbing alcohol -- I use 90% Isopropyl Alcohol bought from CVS -- and a Q-Tip Cotton Swab and you clean it. I've seen one used FHI Runway Iron got some nasty yellow/orange residue on the white ceramic plates that was being sold on eBay, and I bet the owner never cleaned it, so please, make sure you remember to clean the plates after each use. This thing is so expensive you don't want it to look like that after a few months!

COMPARABLE TO?
--------------
I just want to say that I have had a Japanese Thermal Reconditioning done on my hair with one of the best TR stylists in the USA, and the FHI Runway gets me about 80% there in terms of results. Not quite Japanese pin straight perfect, but it's just about as good as it gets. I was pretty pleased. :)

ALL IS NOT PERFECT
------------------
Now, I really wanted to dock one star for the following reason, but decided since it's not really the product's fault, I shouldn't: FHI's warranty policy is absurd. They will only offer you the 1 year warranty this iron comes with only if you buy it directly from FHI or from an FHI approved salon. So what does this mean...? If you buy an FHI flat iron, such as this Runway, anywhere on the Internet except from FHI, you have no warranty. FHI even excludes Amazon. Now, thankfully, Amazon has a good price on the Runway, so you aren't paying the full MSRP and if it breaks, at least you can take solace in that.

CONCLUSION
----------
I would recommend you get the Runway if you are the type of person who just has to have the best of the best and will not settle for anything lower. I do consider this to be the KING of all flat irons, but I could get very similar results with a much cheaper iron, but probably not quite this good -- obviously I haven't tried every flat iron out there, so my claim cannot be taken for scientific fact. I think this iron is going to last me longer than a cheaper one, so I think it's worth it personally, though barely worth it. In terms of my own satisfaction, I'd rate it as a grade of A- or B+.

Just don't have too high expectations and realize this is still a flat iron -- not a miracle worker, like a Japanese TR done by a properly trained stylist.

Love it!
I get monthly chemical relaxers, so I just need a flat iron to take the texture out of my hair when I blow dry. I don't know about using a flat iron as a daily straighener because my hair is already chemically straightened.

My texture is medium-coarse and this iron leaves my hair shiny and soft. I use my FHI once a week whenever I wash it, and I feel the difference for days. The CHI may have just been too hot for my hair because the one I had didn't have the temperature setting. After I used this FHI a few times, I gave my old CHI to my friend. My hair would be shinny with the CHI, but it would also feel hard and fried. Plus after about 2 days, it seems like it needed to use some serious CHI heat again which may have contributed to my hair breakage so I stopped using it.

My hair dresser uses FHI and my hair always feel great. I would get many compliments so after getting my hair back into health, I turned again to the high heat ceramics. When I use the FHI, I can go a nearly a week with using minimial or no additional heat. I especially noticed the difference in the back of my hair (known to some as the "kitchen").

I still use my good cheapo ceramic conair iron daily at a low setting as needed. I could also use the FHI daily at the lower settings, but the cheaper irons do just as well after my hair is initially strengthened with the FHI. So why burn out this expensive iron everyday?

I've used many flat irons and hair products. To me, the health of your hair and your regime makes a huge in the determining whether a hair tool or hair product works. I definitely recommend any flat iron that is ceramic. Even the cheap ones help my hair hold moisture - less frying. It makes a huge difference for me! Combine it with a ionic dryer, a great conditioner and setting lotion, and I am good!

Can't Ask For Much More....
I have very coarse curly hair, and this iron does the trick. It gets super hot, heats up in about 15 seconds and straightens quickly and very effectively. I can get it to that nice silky smooth straight, not the disappointing straight-ish frizz girls like me are often stuck with. I thought about the 1 3/4", but the 1" lets me get my bangs and it's still no problem for handling long hair quickly. I used Amazon Prime and got it the next day.Couldn't be happier!

FHI Special Edition Platform
I purchased this for my wife who has owned many flat irons and she says this one is the best she has ever had. She also has told me that this exact model is what her hair stylist uses and sells them for about $150.

OH MY GOSH, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
I never really believed that a blow dryer could make a difference, and I kept buying the cheaper drug store dryers. My last one was the Revlon Tourmaline dryer, the one that was touted to be as good as the T3. Well, it was OK, but I still required at least 20 minutes of drying, then smoothing with my FHI iron.

When I saw that FHI had a pro tourmaline dryer, I figured I had to at least try it, since I loved their flat iron so much. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW. This dryer is so far superior to anything else I have ever used. My shoulder length thick curly frizzy hair is dry and perfectly styled (with the help of a round ceramic brush) in 15 minutes, no need for my iron anymore. I really can't believe my hair can get this smooth and shiny with only a dryer, but I LOVE IT. So it cuts at least 10 minutes out of my dry/style time.

This dryer is a bit heavier than my drugstore Revlon, but since I'm not holding it as long, it doesn't really matter to me. The noise level is way way down too, I've never heard a dryer this quiet, so peaceful.

If you ever considered weather a pro dryer was worth the money, the answer is YES definitely. I hope this dryer lasts for years, but if it dies I'm running to buy a new one.

Worth the money!

A good blow dryer really makes a difference
This blow dryer is amazing. I have long hair that can sometimes be hard to tame. I have always had cheap blow dryers, which means I spent 15 minutes drying and then another 20 minutes curling it or running a flat iron through it. When my last cheap blow dryer finally bit the dust I decided to spend a little extra money on this FHI dryer. After my first time using it I was shocked at what a difference it made. Not only was it shiny and full of body, but I didn't even need to use my curling iron. It was worth every penny!! I will never go back to those cheap dryers again.

Lightweight & fast drying time!
I love this hair dryer and I've tried the more expensive ones. This one is the best! It dried my hair fast and my hair feels so shiny and healthy. It's quiet and is very light weight.
